Korea recently announced its plans to implement the “Permitted Importing Countries/Areas and the Import Sanitary Conditions of Livestock products” to better manage the importation of livestock products.
Similar to China CNCA’s rules (refer to Section 03 of F-Lists) which stipulate that for specific products (meat, dairy, aquatic products, birds nest) only the products of approved manufacturers can be imported and circulated in the country, Korea’s new rules put forward the qualifying criteria which shall be met before livestock products of the specific country/region could enter Korea:
For products which require inspections according to the “Act on the Prevention of Contagious Animal Diseases”, they could be imported if not banned.
For products which don’t require customs inspection upon arrival, they shall be produced in an approved plant of an approved country/region according to the “Livestock Products Sanitary Control Act”, and only includes meat products and egg products.
Before the official implementation of the “Imported Food Safety Management Special Law” on 4 Feb 2016, general sanitary requirements for permitted imported livestock products (see below) will be detailed along with exemption criteria.
The “Processing Standards and Ingredient Specifications for Livestock Products” shall be complied.
The packaging, handling and delivery methods adopted shall ensure that the raw materials and the final products are free from contamination, decay or deterioration.
Products shall be manufactured in designated plants under effective governmental supervision.
