On 26 Oct 2015, Macao SAR released the Pathogenic Microbiological Limits for Infant Formula, a new supplementary legislative regulation, which entered into force the following day. The regulation is formulated in accordance with Macao’s Food Safety Law which was firstly introduced in 2013.
The regulation heavily referenced China’s national food safety standards and other international standards. The new regulation specifies the scope, definitions and limits of pathogenic microbes in infant formula. It is also explicitly stipulated in the annex that enterobacter sakazakii (cronobacter spp.) and salmonella shall not be detected in the product.
