Malaysia's draft amendment would require packaged beverages to carry a mandatory sugar content grading label based on sugar per 100ml, using a four-tier A-to-D classification.
The proposal also prescribes detailed label presentation rules, including specific wording, color coding, and principal display panel placement for both ready-to-drink and powder or concentrate beverages.
On June 4, 2026, Malaysia released the Online Public Consultation No. 2/20261 for the Draft Amendment to Food Regulations 1985 under the Food Act 1983. One of the most important changes is that the draft introduces a mandatory sugar content grading labeling system for packaged beverages to help consumers make healthier choices. The deadline for submitting public feedback is July 4, 2026.
