On November 17, 2016, NHFPC announced the approval of 9-Decen-2-one as a new food flavouring agent, and the extension of the usage/application scope of 7 food additives’ including tea polyphenols, carbon dioxide, caramel coloring, lactic acid, cellulose, sodium sulfite, dimethione (and its emulsion) and the extension of the food nutrition enhancer’s application scope of calcium.
9-Decen-2-one is approved to be used as flavorings in various food categories except those in Table B.1 in GB 2760-2014. The permitted concentration may be adjusted according to technical requirements outlined below:
