South Korea Drafts Food Code Updates on Cell-Cultured Processed Foods and Other Safety Standards

The Food Code draft would establish new standards for cell-cultured processed foods, expand the scope of permitted food ingredients, update certain food safety standards and general testing methods, and allow the early application of revised standards for infant formula products.

On June 30, 2026, South Korea Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) issued Notices No. 2026-310 and No. 2026-311, proposing amendments to the Food CodeThe draft revisions introduce new standards for cell-cultured processed foods, expand the scope of permitted food ingredients, and update certain food safety standards and general testing methods. Moreover, the draft allows the early application of revised standards for infant formula products (MFDS Notice No. 2025-56). Public feedback is open until August 31, 2026.
