Suntory Uses the World’s First 100% Recycled Aluminum Can in Its Limited-Edition Beers

On August 31, 2022, Suntory announced the use of the world’s first 100% recycled aluminum can in two of its limited-edition beer products.

As disclosed by Suntory, this kind of 100% recycled aluminum can is developed in collaboration with UACJ Corporation and Toyo Seikan Group, which emits 60% less CO2 compared to the creation of a regular aluminum can. Products are available in stores nationwide in Japan in a limited amount from September 6th.

The Suntory Group has been engaging in a sustainable society with its corporate mission "To create harmony with people and nature". In order to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions across the entire value chain by 2050, the Suntory Group has set a goal to halve GHG emission in its direct operations and reduce by 30% across the entire value chain by 2030. Masaaki Fujiwara, Deputy Division COO, Sustainability Management Division Leader at Suntory Holdings expressed his thoughts on the use of the 100% recycled aluminum can that “We are delighted that the three companies were able to take on the challenge to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the value chain... We will continue to work together with all members of the value chain and promote various initiatives to realize a circular society.”
