Taiwan Revised the Hygiene Standards for Alcohol Products

On 29 Mar 2013, Taiwan Ministry of Finance is consulting on the revision of the article 5  and 6 of “Hygiene Standards for Alcohol Products” . The consultation runs until  8 April. 

In order to enhance the safety of alcohol,  it specifies substances prohibited to be contained in alcohol products as well as their additives. 

Revised article 5 The alcohol products and additives in alcoholic beverages shall not have the following:

  1. toxic or any other substances or matter harmful to human health.

  2. substances that have never been used on food or beverages and have not yet been proven to be unharmful to human health.

Revised article 6  Apart from Articles 4 and 5 which shall become effective from January 1, 2008, these Standards shall come into force as of the date of promulgation.

The Hygiene Standards came into force since 29 Jun 2004 and has been revised three times since then. Besides banned substances, it also sets specific quantities for methyl alcohol, lead, sorbic acid, benzoic acid, colorants, sulphur dioxide etc. contained in alcohol products.
