On April 27th, Taiwan Food and Drug Administration (FDA) made public the amendment to the Hygienic Standard for Food Detergents, which took effect immediately after the announcement.
Major changes can be seen in the following aspects:
The definition of food detergents was revised to “substances used for disinfecting or deterging food, food tools, food containers or food contact materials”. Food detergents should be distinguished from disinfectants for commercial sterilization purposes, the latter of which by definition is products which “prohibit reproduction of microorganisms and eliminate any active harmful microorganism and its spores under normal storage and transportation conditions and/or without refrigeration”.
Lists of main disinfectant ingredients in food detergents applicable to food contact materials and food were newly added (including the use requirements).
The rules for usage of fragrances and colorants in food detergents were further clarified.
