On December 13, 2024, the Taiwan Food and Drug Administration (TFDA) announced draft amendments to the Appendix 1 of Article 3 and Appendix 4 of Article 5 in the Standards for Pesticide Residue Limits in Foods. Comments on the proposed amendments can be submitted within 60 days of following announcement date.
Proposed amendments include:
1) Introducing and revising maximum residue limits (MRLs) for 32 pesticides in 100 crops

Acrinathrin | Apple | 0.5 | 0.1 | Acaricide |
Chlormequat | Grape | 0.6 | / | Growth regulator |
Fluazaindolizine | Tomato | 0.01 | / | Nematicide |
Penthiopyrad | Blueberry | 5.0 | / | Bactericide |
…… |
2) Removing MRLs for 2,4-D and Captan in 6 crops
Name | Crop | Proposed MRL(ppm) | Existing MRL(ppm) | Function |
2,4-D | Other (vegetable and fruit) | / | 0.02 | Herbicide |
Other (cereal) | / | 0.02 | Herbicide | |

3) Specifying that when a MRL has been established for a specific crop, the MRL applicable to its crop category do not apply. e.g., Afidopyropen has a MRL of 0.5 ppm as an insecticide in cabbage, which does not apply to brussels sprouts where the limit is 0.4 ppm.
4) Adding Prothiofos to the list of prohibited pesticides in line with agricultural department announcements.
