On November 16, 2023, Thailand Food and Drug Administration issued a notification, seeking for public feedback on the proposed amendments regarding maximum levels (ML) of food contaminants. The authority prepares three options for each case and the public are asked to complete the assessment sheets regarding the impacts caused by the three options before December 29, 2023. The public opinions will be one of the significant references for the modification.
The following are the details of the proposed revisions.

aflatoxin | Dried chilies | 1) Maintains the current situation that the ML value of aflatoxin in dried chili peppers (including ground chili) should not exceed 20 mg/kg. 2) Sets a recommended ML for aflatoxin in dried chili peppers (including ground chili) with the value of not exceeding 15 mg/kg 3) Sets a mandatory ML for aflatoxin in dried chili peppers (including ground chili) with the value of not exceeding 15 mg/kg |
Ochratoxins | Coffee products | 1) Maintains the current situation of having no ML 2) Sets a recommended value for ochratoxins in coffee products as follow: Roasted coffee beans and ground coffee: not more than 5 mg/kg Instant coffee powder: not more than 10 mg/kg 3) Sets a mandatory ML of ochratoxins in coffee products, with the same value of option 2. |
Glycoalkaloids | potato tubers | 1) Maintains the current situation of having no ML 2) Sets a recommended ML for Glycoalkaloids in fresh whole potato tubers with the value of not exceeding 200 mg/kg. 3) Sets a mandatory ML for Glycoalkaloids in fresh whole potato tubers with the value of not exceeding 200 mg/kg. |
