Thailand Proposes to Revise the Maximum Residue Limits of Pesticide in Agricultural Products

The proposed revisions are expected to make the pesticide residue limits in Thailand more align with the international standards, so as to ensure the food safety and protect consumers’ health.

According to the press released by Thai Food and Drug Administration on March 7, 2024, Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives was collecting public opinions on the following two drafts related to maximum residue limits of pesticides (MRLs) in agricultural products. Any comments on the proposed amendments can be sent back through the online platform prior to April 14, 2024.

The current version of TAS 9002 was issued in 2016 and then updated in 2017 and 2020. TAS 9003 was published in 2004. Because the regulations and referenced data that serve as the basis of the establishment of these standards have been updated or changed, the competent authority determined to revise the standards in order to make them more consistent with the latest international requirements.

As revealed by the notification, the latest draft of TAS 9002 covers the residues values of 89 types of agricultural hazardous substances, while that of TAS 9003 specifies the MRLs of 7 types of unavoidable agricultural hazardous substances. After being finalized, they will be served as significant references for the future revision to Ministry of Public Health Notification on Food Containing Pesticide Residues
