Thailand Unveils the Usage Instruction of Functional Ingredients in Health Supplement

As revealed by Thailand Food and Drug Administration announcement issued on Jan. 26, 2022, the competent authority clarified that health supplement belongs to food. According to the announcement, health supplement should conform to relevant quality standards and complete product registration before selling. In order to facilitate the registration of health supplement products in Thailand, the authority has taken the following two measures:

 1. Two documents were abolished

(1) Notification of the Food and Drug Administration regarding the list of plants that can be used in Health supplement (dated 2017, Aug. 17)

(2) Notification of the Food and Drug Administration regarding the list of plants that can be used in Health Supplement (No. 2) (dated 2018, Aug. 22)

2. Usage Instruction of Functional Ingredients in Health Supplement (hereinafter “Usage Instruction”) could be referred to while applying for health supplement registration. It is not required to apply for safety evaluation if the ingredient is included in the Usage Instruction.
