4 Imported Infant formula Brands Fail CFDA National Inspection

In China both domestic and imported foods are subject to post-market supervision by CFDA and its local watchdogs. On 5 May 2015, CFDA released the results of a national campaign in which spot checks were conducted on 1565 batches of Infant formula products during 2014. The investigation covered products made by 100 domestic infant formula manufacturers as well as some imported ones. Details are shown in the following table:

    • enterobacter sakazakii detected;

    • values of some nutritional ingredients not compliant with national standard;

    • contents of some nutritional ingredients not consistent with those marked on labels

In total, 23 local manufacturers and 4 distributors of imported brands are affected and have been ordered by the CFDA to stop manufacturing or selling the unqualified products in question.
