China Infant Formula: Countdown to Infant Formula Recipe Registration Deadline
Feb 17, 2017
The grace period for infant formula recipe registration has been extended to Jan. 1, 2018. Unregistered infant formula will not be allowed to be sold on the Chinese market after that date, which means there are only ten months remaining for infant formula manufacturers to finish registration.

China Infant Formula: CFDA Drafts Provisions for Labeling and Stability Research for Infant Formula Recipe Registration

On Jan. 26, 2017, China CFDA released two supplementary documents pertaining to infant formula recipe registration, namely “Technical Guidance for Labeling of Infant Formula Recipe Registration” and “Technical Guidance for Stability Research of Infant Formula Recipe Registration”. The period for public consultation will end Feb. 20, 2017.

Macau Establishes Infant Formula Nutritional Ingredient Requirements

On Nov. 28, 2016, the chief executive of Macau established “Requirements for Infant Formula Nutritional Ingredients” (effective from date of announcement) after consultation with Macau Executive Council. This regulation does not apply to infant foods for special medical purpose.

1. The trial guidelines for infant formula registration have been finalized and detail the requirements and practical elements involved in compiling infant formula registration dossiers. Overall the trial versions have optimized certain procedures and removed some unpractical requirements when compared to the draft version. 2. Outlining the requirements for expounding the scientific rationale for formula development is the major focus. Scientific information relating to formula comparability with natural breast milk or other supporting nutritional research can be used to meet this requirement.

6 Chinese Goat Infant Formula Powder Manufacturers Reprimanded for Hygiene Violations

In 2016, the authority tightened up supervision on goat milk products. Several notices were issued on implementation of more stringent inspection, such as “Area Governance on Infant Formula Goat Milk Powder” by CFDA. Shanxi FDA (the most significant goat milk production region in China) released “Governance on Goat Milk Powder Enterprise of Shanxi Province”.

CFDA Released Results of Onsite Inspection of Four Major Infant Formula Manufacturers

In May of 2016, the CFDA organized a team to conduct onsite inspection of the production plants of four infant formula manufacturers, Weiquan, Beingmate, Wyeth Nutrition and Abbott. The inspection results were issued on the 8th of November.
