Macau Establishes Infant Formula Nutritional Ingredient Requirements

On Nov. 28, 2016, the chief executive of Macau established “Requirements for Infant Formula Nutritional Ingredients” (effective from date of announcement) after consultation with Macau Executive Council. This regulation does not apply to infant foods for special medical purpose.

  • The requirements for infant formula nutritional ingredients have been newly established in Macau, including the requirements for energy value and maximum and minimum limits of nutritional ingredients.

On Nov. 28, 2016, the chief executive of Macau established “Requirements for Infant Formula Nutritional Ingredients” (effective from date of announcement) after consultation with Macau Executive Council. This regulation does not apply to infant foods for special medical purpose.

Three tables of infant formula nutritional ingredients have been approved under this new regulation, including:

  • Energy value of infant formula
  • Maximum and minimum limits of nutritional ingredients for infant formula, including the limits of protein, carbohydrate, fat, linoleic acid, α- linolenic acid, as well as all kinds of vitamins and minerals, etc.
  • The proportion of added nutritional ingredients for infant formula
