On Jan. 20, 2014, CFDA made an announcement listing 14 newly accredited institutes for health food testing. The latest addition brings the total number of accredited testing agencies to 46 (see the news released by chemlinked on Nov. 12, 2013 for other 32 testing agencies). These testing institutes will be officially sanctioned from March 1, 2014 onwards.
Prior to the application to CFDA for health food registration, it is required to carry out efficacy tests for health food, including safety test (toxicology), function test, stability test, hygiene inspection, and efficacy/iconic composition validation test. In addition, only the testing report issued by the testing agencies accredited by CFDA will be accepted. Each accredited testing agency will carry out testing for a period of 5 years. The test offered by each testing agency will be according to their respective testing capacities.
