CFDA Approves Raw Materials Sourced from Specially Bred Sika Deer as Health Food Raw Material

On Oct. 24, 2014, China Food and Drug Administration released a notification announcing the approval of health food raw materials sourced from specially bred (purpose specific) sika deer and its byproducts. The declaration and evaluation requirements for pilos antler, deer fetus and bone of sika deer are the same as those in the list of raw materials/auxiliary materials that can be used in health food (published by CFDA). As antler of sika deer is not a raw material or auxiliary material that has been approved for use in health foods, relevant toxicology evaluation report and safety materials should be submitted for evaluation.
