CFDA to Standardize Regular Inspection of Food Manufacturing and Trading Activities

On Mar. 8, 2016, China Food and Drug Administration (CFDA) released the “Administrative Measures for Regular Supervision and Inspection of Food Manufacturing and Trading”, which will be formally implemented from May 1, 2016.

On Mar. 8, 2016, China Food and Drug Administration (CFDA) released the “Administrative Measures for Regular Supervision and Inspection of Food Manufacturing and Trading”, which will be formally implemented from May 1, 2016.

This regulation is applicable to all varieties of foods, special foods and food additives for the regular inspection on all the food manufacturing, trading and catering service sectors.

The following measures may be taken during the regular inspection activities:

  • Field inspection
  • Sampling inspection
  • Reviewing and copying relevant contracts, bills, accounting books, etc.
  • Sealing up or holding foodstuffs, tools and equipment incompliant with relevant food safety standards, proven with hidden safety danger, or used for illegal activities
  • Closing down the premises engaged in illegal production or trading activities

The inspection frequency will be established based on the food category, enterprise scale, management level, food safety status, credit record, etc., and an annual regular inspection plan and checklist will be formulated accordingly to implement classified risk management.
