The dual track (filing & registration) system of health food in China kicked off in 2016, The competent authority approved filing applications of 5 products in 2017 and 40 in 2018. Up to now 55 products have received health food licenses (excluding 3 filing cancellations).

According to GB 16740-2014, health food in China refers to food products which claim to have specific health functions or supplement certain vitamins or minerals.[2] What is dual-track system of health food? According to Administrative Measures for Registration and Filing of Health Food (2016 version), health foods whose ingredients are not in the Health Food Ingredients List[3] or who are exported to China for the first time (exclude nutrient supplements) should register before market; health foods whose ingredients are in the List and nutrient supplements exported to China for the first time require filing.[4] |
