China Consults on Amendment No. 1 to Food Additive and Flavoring Standards (GB 2760 & GB 30616)

The draft amendment primarily reclassifies several additives (e.g., arabic gum, propylene glycol) as flavoring auxiliary materials and removes them from GB 2760, while deleting certain flavoring substances no longer deemed technologically necessary, signaling a clear shift toward stricter alignment with actual use in flavoring systems.

On April 17, 2026, the National Health Commission (NHC) released 37 draft National Food Safety Standards (GB standards) for public consultation, including Amendment No. 1 (Draft for Comments) to GB 2760-2024 National Food Safety Standard Standard for Uses of Food Additives and GB 30616-2020 National Food Safety Standard Food Flavorings. These amendments aim to optimize the management of food flavorings and auxiliary materials by adjusting permitted substance lists based on their actual functional attributes and recent risk assessments. Any comments can be submitted before June 6, 2026 via the online system.
