Noteworthy Points Revealed by the Draft
Product Classification
In the current version, there are six categories of sports nutrition food under two classification rules, now the draft unifies the rules into one, that is on the basis of different nutritional and physical needs for human sports, with the six categories remaining the same.
Technical Requirements
Compared with the current version, for protein supplemental food, the required level of fat in solid products and powdered products are changed from not more than 15 g and 6 g per 100 g product to 20 g and 10 g respectively. Besides, the draft details essential and optional ingredient list for three categories, including products for speed and power, for endurance and for post-exercise recovery. Take sports nutrition food for endurance for example, the draft lists taurine as an essential ingredient in place of vitamin B2, and adds vitamin B2 and FDP-Na3H into optional ingredients.
Labeling
While reserving most of labeling requirements from the current version, such as the indication of unsuitable population and the special labeling requirements for products containing creatine, the draft updates the provision on the indication of "sports nutrition food" and relevant product category. That is, each product can only be labelled with one product category.
