On November 22, 2023, General Administration of Customs of China (GACC) published the list of non-compliant food products in October 2023. A total of 246 batches of imported food from 42 countries/regions were rejected.
Most non-compliant imported food in October came from Japan (22.0%, mostly beverages and snacks), followed by Taiwan, China (8.1%, mostly beverages and grain products) and Belgium (7.3%, all alcohol products). The major reasons for import rejections were as follows:
Discrepancy between cargo and certificate (22.0%)
Unqualified labeling (21.5%)
Exceeded expiry date (14.2%)
Lack of inspection & quarantine permit (11.8%)
Excessive use of food additives/nutritional fortification substances (11.4%)
