China to Establish Traceability System for Edible Vegetable Oil

On Jan. 7, 2016, CFDA released the guidance for the establishment of an edible vegetable oil traceability system.

According to Article 42 of the Food Safety Law, Food producers and traders shall establish a food traceability system to guarantee the traceability of foods.

Under the requirements of the new traceability system, the information recorded for the edible vegetable oil traceability system should cover the whole process of production and trading, including information related to raw material examination and acceptance, production process, product inspection, product sale, personnel and equipment, etc. Manufacturers should record the information of material sources, processing processes, product flow, product quantity, etc. to ensure whole process traceability.

At present there are many counterfeit and inferior edible vegetable oil products circulating in the Chinese market. Information relating to aflatoxin B1 and benzo[a]pyrene content is also required.
