China Food Importation: 2nd List of Approved Indonesian Bird’s Nest Manufacturers Announced

At the end of 2013 China’s ban on bird’s nest of Malaysian origin was lifted and strict quarantine and inspection requirements were simultaneously implemented by Chinese authorities. Only a few manufacturers obtained approval to export bird’s nest products to China. Since then restrictions on certain products were implemented due to safety concerns; however the recent publication of Indonesia’s second approved list has improved the situation.

Imported bird’s nest products should be managed in accordance with China’s Traceability Management Platform of Bird’s Nest.

The ban on imported bird’s nest was imposed in 2011 since due to excessive nitrite levels and was lifted at the end of 2013 with the approval of eight bird’s nest manufacturers. Only bird’s nest imported from Malaysia and Indonesia is allowed in China at this moment.
