China GAC Updates the List of Approved Overseas Infant Formula Manufacturers: Danone & Synlait Included

On Dec. 3, 2019, China GAC updated the list of enterprises which have been granted infant formula overseas manufacturer registration approval in China. 5 countries including Ireland, Germany, France, Netherland and New Zealand are involved in the latest updates.

France
Bledina is a subsidiary company of Danone Group. It is the leading infant nutrition manufacturer in France and had one of its manufacturing plant registered on Dec. 21, 2018 and was approved for export of infant formula liquid milk. The latest update means that Bledina can now also manufacture infant formula milk powder for China’s markets.

Ireland

Compared with the list issued on Dec. 25, 2018, Wyeth inclusion in the list is an amendment of previous registration details involving a slight change to the spelling of the manufacturer address and city.

New Zealand
Synlait Milk Limited (approval No. 868) was purchased by Synlait Group in 2017 and went into operation the same year. John Penno, the former Synlait CEO, stated that this new factory would largely increase its infant formula capacity and satisfy the demand in the Chinese market.

Netherlands
This enterprise is newly added.

Germany
The manufacture address is updated.

According to “Administrative Provisions on Registration of Overseas Manufacturers of Imported Foods (exposure draft)” issued by GAC on Nov. 26, overseas manufacturer registration may be subject to more stringent supervision in future. For example, annual verification and a new reporting mechanism will be mandatory. You can click here to read more.
