On November the 30th, China’s AQSIQ released data on non-compliant food in October 2017. 720 batches of food from 48 countries or regions were rejected. The most represented food categories in the list are beverages, sweets, pastry and cookies. The main reasons for rejection are substandard quality, noncompliant label and certification requirements not met.
The table below shows some data on Non-Compliant food for the categories of Beverages, Pastry and Cookies, Sweets and Infant Formula:
Product Category | Number of Batches | Main Countries of Origin | Main Reasons for Noncompliance |
Beverages | 77 | United States, Spain, etc. | Excessive Additives content, Expiration Date |
Pastry and Cookies | 60 | South Korea, Russia, etc. | Certifications, Label |
Sweets | 45 | Various | Noncompliant Label, Excessive Additives content |
Infant Formula | 5 | France, Australia | Noncompliant Label |
It is noteworthy to mention that Camperdown Powder Pty Ltd was blacklisted again (read CL news here, here and here), because three batches of their formula didn’t meet labeling requirements.
The biggest batches of non-compliant food are flax seeds and cocoa products from various countries, as shown in the table below:
All the above-mentioned batches of food have been either returned or destroyed at the port area.
Chinese authorities have strict requirements when it comes to labeling and product composition; producers and importers should pay special attention to such problems when deciding to export to China in order to avoid financial losses.
