On 29 December, 2016, the Food and Drug Administration of China (CFDA), National Health and Family Planning Committee (NHFPC) and Ministry of Agriculture (MOA) jointly released Announcement No.16 detailing 107 National food safety standards regarding maximum residue limits of pesticide in food and determination methods of pesticide residue in food.
The pesticide residue standard system in China has lagged behind international standards. The new GB2763-2016 stipulates 4140 residue limits of 433 pesticides in 10 agricultural food categories. Compared to the previous version “GB2763-2014”, GB2763-2016 adds 490 new residue limits. The Chinese government will continue to establish pesticide residue limit and corresponding determination methods standards with a goal to establish 10000 pesticide residue limits by 2020.
