- The Food Safety Committee of the State Council released a circular on annual food safety supervision work review and assessment as provincial government food safety performance evaluation.
- Field inspection, assessment by related authorities and third parties, and self-assessment will be conducted to assess government’s performance.
On August 30, the General Office of the State Council published No.65 Circular on Annual Review and Assessment of Food Safety Work to strengthen food safety management and supervision responsibilities of provincial government.
The assessment will focus on food safety work implementation and food safety status in each province. In addition to self-assessment, the Food Safety Committee of the State Council will also send inspectors to conduct field inspections, and refer to review results of related authorities and some third-party institutions. On the basis of the final assessment report, local governments' performance will be awarded a grade. Those governments with poor food safety performance will be requested to make timely readjustments, be disqualified from any rewards or honors, or even punished for serious safety problems.
