France Renews Suspension of Food Supplements Containing Garcinia Cambogia

1. France has renewed a one-year suspension on the importation, introduction, and placing on the market of food supplements containing Garcinia cambogia Desr., effective April 18, 2026.
2. The measure is based on ANSES evaluations identifying acute health risks from Garcinia cambogia extracts, and is taken as a precaution while EU-level assessment of hydroxycitric acid (HCA) is still ongoing.
3. Food business operators must ensure their products and supply chains fully exclude Garcinia cambogia, bearing all costs and liabilities for any non-compliance or market withdrawals.
On April 17, 2026, the French authorities released an official order1 renewing the suspension of the importation, introduction, and placing on the market of food supplements containing the plant Garcinia cambogia Desr. The regulation aims to protect public health from acute risks associated with the plant's consumption. This decree officially came into effect on April 18, 2026.
