FSSAI Announces Two Regulatory Updates on Alcoholic Beverages

1. FSSAI has extended the enforcement date for new alcoholic beverage labelling provisions released on June 24, 2025 from January 1, 2026 to July 1, 2026. 2. FSSAI issued the final Food Safety and Standards (Alcoholic Beverages) Second Amendment Regulations, 2025, which will take effect on June 1, 2026. The amendment raises the maximum permitted ester level (expressed as ethyl acetate) for fruit wine other than grape wine from 0.2 g/L to 3.0 g/L of absolute alcohol.

On November 27, 2025, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) announced two updates to its regulatory framework for alcoholic beverages, including the postponement of upcoming labeling requirements and the release of a final amendment revising the ester limit for fruit wine other than grape wine.
