    • Nickel now can be used as catalyst during fat hardening, and some food additives like manganese gluconate have had their application scope/usage requirements updated.

    On Jun. 29, 2018, Korea MFDS announced the revision to “Food Additive Code”, including:

    New food additive

    Nickel now can be used as food additive specifically as a catalyst during the fat hardening process.

    Food flavoring and fragrance

    60 permitted substances for synthetic fragrance are revised and 28 are newly added. Besides, L- cysteine ​​hydrochloride can now be used as a food flavoring.

    Product standard

    7 products such as manganese gluconate and L- cysteine ​​hydrochloride have had their usage requirements updated. 5 aluminiferous food additives including aluminum ammonium sulfate have both application scope and usage requirement amended.

    Testing standard

    Protein analyzer testing method is newly included in nitrogen quantitative method


    Infant formula for Lactoprotein sensitized/allergic infant is a new sub-category of infant formula food (formula milk)
