Malaysia Notified WTO to Update the Permitted Probiotic Culture List in Food Regulations 1985

1) Malaysia proposes updating permitted probiotic cultures by adding the globally accepted name L. paracasei Shirota / Lacticaseibacillus paracasei Shirota after L. casei Shirota. 2) A new strain, Lactobacillus plantarum 299v / Lactiplantibacillus plantarum 299v, will be added to the permitted list. 3) Stakeholders can comment until Dec 5, 2025; amendments take effect six months after official publication.

On October 6, 2025, Malaysia's Ministry of Health (MOH) notified the World Trade Organization (WTO) of proposed amendments to its Food Regulations 1985.
