On 18 Aug 2015, South Korea released an order to partly revise the “Enforcement Rules of the Food Sanitation Act”, to enlarge the scope of food categories that require nutritional labeling.
Coffee (except instant coffee and roasted coffee) and sauce products (except Korean mejoo, Korean soy sauce, Korean traditional soy sauce, dorean doenjang and cheonggukjang) have been added to the list of food products which require nutritional labeling. The labeling is laid down to assist consumers in identifying nutritional content particularly sugar and salt content.
The revision will become effective on coffee products from 1 Jan 2016, and will be fully implemented on sauce products by Jan 2021.
