South Korea Amends Food Labeling Standard for Decaffeinated Coffee and Liquor-Collaborated Products

Starting January 1, 2028, coffee can only be labeled as decaffeinated when residual caffeine is 0.1% or less based on coffee bean solids, and liquor collaboration products must display clear alcohol labeling on the main panel.

On May 12, 2026, South Korea Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) issued Notice No. 2026-37, announcing a partial amendment to the Food Labeling Standard. The regulatory update primarily targets two areas: harmonizing decaffeinated coffee labeling with international standards and enforcing stricter labeling requirements for liquor collaboration products. The changes aim to provide consumers with clearer information and prevent accidental consumption of alcohol due to confusing packaging. These updates are scheduled to take force on January 1, 2028.
