South Korea to Expand Functionality for Health Functional Ingredient Chitooligosaccharide

South Korea proposes to expand the functionality of Chitooligosaccharides to include postprandial blood sugar management, and establish relevant manufacturing and intake standards.

On December 23, 2025, South Korea Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) issued draft amendments to the Health Functional Food Code. The proposed amendments aims to add a new functional claim for Chitooligosaccharide, and to refine testing methods for specific functional ingredients. Stakeholders may submit comments until February 23, 2026.
