Taiwan to Formulate: Food Good Hygiene Practice (Draft)

On November 25, 2013 Taiwan’s FDA announced the implementation of the Food Good Hygiene Practice (Draft) code. The Food Good Hygiene Practice will expand on the specific requirements of enterprise operating in the food industry according to Item 1 of Article 8 of Act Governing Food Sanitation. Article 8 of the Food Sanitation Act mandates that food trade personnel, workplaces, equipment sanitary control and quality assurance system should conform to Food Good Hygiene Practice. Food Good Hygiene Practice will expand on the specifics of these requirements. The Food Good Hygiene Practice will serve as the legal framework governing affected stakeholders and outline provisions for review processes and identify ambiguous language used in the clauses of the Act Governing Food Sanitation. The draft regulation includes Administrative Provisions on Edible Oil Used for Frying, Tableware Hygienic Standard for Testing the Cleanness of Tableware, Good Hygiene Practice for Canned Food, and Good Hygiene Practice for Food in Vacuum Package. In addition, good hygiene practices for food additives, food plastic utensil and containers or packaging manufacturing industry are newly added. This Draft was put into force as of its promulgation except for the items that have been otherwise stipulated for specific dates of enforcement.
