Taiwan to Formulate Milk Powder Regulation

Takehome:

• The “Milk Powder Administration Law” has been released in Taiwan to regulate milk powder import & export, labeling and packaging, limitations, etc.

On Nov. 4, 2016, Taiwan Executive Yuan preannounced the “Milk Powder Administration Law” regulating milk powder import & export, labeling and packaging, information required, etc. which took effect on the date of publication.

Milk powder importers or traders should submit the information relating to importation, consumption, price and cost calculation to the competent authority prior to sale in the market. All the records for milk powder purchase, sale, processing and distribution should be kept for not less than one year for inspection by the competent authority.

There will be limitations imposed on certain milk powders based on category, import quantity, country of origin (district), terms and conditions, etc., which will be published by the competent authority. Milk powder subject to these limitations must obtain approval from the competent authority prior to sale in the market.

Labeling requirements:

The following information should be labeled in Chinese characters on the outer package or container of milk powders:

• Product name
• Specifications
• Country (district) of origin
• Weight
• Date of manufacturing/shelf life
• Manufacturer name, phone number and address
