Takehome:

  • Three more food categories have been included into Taiwan’s food traceability system, namely vinegar, egg products and infant foods.

On Mar. 1, 2017, Taiwan Food and Drug Administration (TFDA) announced another three food categories that will require food traceability:

  • Vinegar
  • Egg products
  • Infant foods

There were already 19 food industry sectors which required traceability (see CL news report on Jun. 12, 2015), and the latest additions brings the total number to 22. It is estimated that more than 4,700 enterprises have already implemented traceability systems. The new requirement will be implemented in stages beginning Jul. 31, 2017.

Salt had previously been included into the list of foodstuffs requiring a traceability system, however authorities recently clarified that only salt containing a concentration of 95% or greater of sodium chloride requires traceability.
