Taiwan to Revise the Standards for Food Additives Containing Aluminum

On Jan. 18, 2016, Taiwan Food and Drug Administration (TFDA) preannounced the revision of “Standards for Specification, Scope, Application and Limitation of Food Additives”, which mainly includes the change of application scope and limitation of food additives containing aluminum. This draft regulation will be open for public consultation for 60 days.

The application scope, limitation and specification of 9 food additives containing aluminum have been revised this time, including ammonium aluminum sulfate, aluminum potassium sulfate, sodium aluminum sulfate, aluminum sulfate, acidic sodium aluminum phosphate, etc. These 9 food additives have been restricted to only be used in specified categories of food, including aquatic processed products, pickles, fried puffed foods, pastries, etc. with limited amount.
