On Mar. 31, 2018, Taiwan FDA issued an announcement detailing the revision of "Requirements for Prepackaged Food Nutrition Labeling". The updated standard entered into force on the date of release, which applies to all prepackaged food (excluding those are exempted) sold in Taiwan, including imported food, health food and special nutrition food.
A clearer system for nutrition labeling that aligns with global best practices is the focus of the revision. Amendments include changes to permitted terminology, numerical representation, table format and etc. Here are the major changes:
1. When nutrition information cannot be completely presented in a vertical format, the remaining information can be represented a horizontal sheet as shown in pic 1 or pic 2 shows:

2. When there are multiple food flavors, they can use a combination method as shown in pic 3 shows:

3. Round-off is newly considered as a data correction principle.
4. Measurement unit can now be expressed by common unit symbols like g, mg, mL and L ( in addition to Chinese characters).
5. The updated standard adds the calculation method for calories per serving.
6. Some indications are more accurate: saturated fat can be indicated as saturated fat or saturated fatty acid; trans-fat can be indicated as trans-fat or trans-fatty acids.
7. There is no fixed place for indication of some items like usage method, content of organic acid and alcohol any more. They are just required to be labeled clearly on the package.
