Vietnam to Amend QCVN 8-1 on the Limits of Mycotoxins Contamination in Food

Vietnam’s draft QCVN 8-1:2026/BYT significantly expands and refines the food-category framework for mycotoxin limits, adding more granular classifications for products such as nuts, seeds, cereals, herbs, baby food, and special medical purpose foods.
The draft also revises maximum levels for multiple mycotoxins, including tighter or newly introduced limits for aflatoxins, ochratoxin A, deoxynivalenol, patulin, and fumonisins, while updating the recommended testing methods to newer analytical standards.
In July 2026, the Ministry of Health of Vietnam released a draft circular proposing the promulgation of the National Technical Regulation QCVN 8-1:2026/BYT concerning the limits of mycotoxins in food. This new draft aims to replace the current regulation QCVN 8-1:2011/BYT National Technical Regulation on the Limits of Mycotoxins Contamination in Food, bringing significant updates to the maximum levels (ML) of various mycotoxins across different food categories, as well as adding more specific food classifications. The deadline for submitting feedback on this draft is July 15, 2026.
