8.1% of Imported Foods Failed CIQ Inspection during the First Half Year of 2014

According to statistics released by Guangzhou’s Entry-exit Inspection and Quarantine, 2005 batches of imported foods were either rejected or destroyed at port during the first half year of 2014, accounting for 8.1% of the total amount of imported foods.

1,836 types of foods are included in the failure list, mainly pastry biscuits and crackers, edible vegetable oil, wine, beverages, and dairy products. A range of reasons were given including microbial contamination, illegal use of food additives, the use of non-food chemical substances, quality defects, and incompliant labels.
