Indonesia Unveils New Regulation on Processed Food Registration

On September 11, 2023, Indonesia Food and Drug Administration (BPOM) released BPOM Regulation No. 23 of 2023 on Processed Food Registration, which is constituted of 14 chapters and 7 appendixes, specifying the registration requirements for all processed food products for retail in Indonesia. The new regulation came into force immediately after its promulgation, repealing BPOM Regulation No. 27 of 2017 Processed Food Registration and its Amendment altogether.

Indonesia Updates the List of Prohibited Raw Materials in Processed Food and Prohibited Ingredients as Food Additives

In early September, Indonesia food and drug administration (BPOM) published No. 22 of 2023 on Raw Materials Prohibited in Processed Food and Ingredients Prohibited from Use as Food Additives, as a replacement of BPOM Regulation No. 7 of 2018 on Prohibited Raw Materials in Processed Foods. For locally-produced and imported processed food products, they shall not contain any listed substances. The new regulation came into force on August 15, 2023.

Indonesia Issues New Regulation Regarding Supervision on Health Supplements Circulation

Indonesia BPOM published Regulation Concerning Supervision of Circulation of Traditional Medicines, Quasi Medicines, and Health Supplements. To protect the public from products that do not meet safety and quality requirements circulating in the Indonesian market, this regulation sets out the requirements for health supplement products, as well as the responsibilities of circulation permit holders, and (overseas) product producers respectively.

Indonesia Unveils New Regulation on Food Categories and Food Raw Materials

On June 6, 2023, Indonesia BPOM unveiled Regulation Number 13 of 2023 concerning Food Categories, which came into force immediately after its promulgation and supersedes previous regulation. For processed foods already obtained circulation permits, they shall comply with this new regulation no later than 30 months after its implementation.

Indonesia Unveils New Regulation on the Registration of Health Supplements

On December 26, 2022, Indonesia Food and Drug Administration (BPOM) unveiled Criteria and Administration of Health Supplement Registration, which stipulated the registration requirements for and procedures of locally-produced, imported and exported health supplements. It replaced the previous 2020 version, and came into force immediately after its promulgation. Notably, BPOM provided a two-year transition period for stakeholders to adopt the changes. During the transition period, current circulation licenses remain valid.
