India issued the draft of the Food Safety and Standards (Genetically Modified Foods) Regulations. EU proposed a revision on Packaging and Waste Directive. The U.S. FDA amended the Color Additive Regulations. Canada amended the Table of Reference Amounts for Food. Australia and New Zealand permitted the use of Alpha-Amylase from the GM Bacillus Licheniformis as processing aid.

In October of 2022, China proposed to add Ginseng, American Ginseng, and Lingzhi to Health Food Raw Material Directory. South Korea published the modifications in Food Code. Japan revised the Ordinance for Enforcement of the Food Sanitation Act. Indonesia drafted new regulation for processed food registration. Thailand unveiled the exposure drafts of five food regulations. Singapore updated the List of New Farms and Establishments Approved to Export to Singapore. Philippines proposed to revise Guidelines on the Unified Licensing Requirements and Procedures. India mandated the rules for foreign food manufacturing facilities of five food categories to register with FSSAI. EU amended regulation as regards maximum levels of dioxins and dioxin-like PCBs in certain foodstuffs. The U.S. announced to remove the dual labeling requirements for certain packages of meat and poultry products. Canada seeks approval for the use of alpha-cyclodextrin. Australia and New Zealand consulted on the use of alpha-amylase.

Canada enabled the use of Pectin Lyase from Trichoderma reesei RF6199 in various foods. Australia revised the product standard for beverage.

On July 20, 2022, Canada published the Canada Gazette, Part II, involving the amendments to the Food and Drug Regulations (Nutrition Symbols, Other Labelling Provisions, Vitamin D and Hydrogenated Fats or Oils) (SOR/2022-168) and the Food and Drug Regulations and the Cannabis Regulations (Supplemented Foods) (SOR/2022-169), which came into effect immediately after the promulgation.

Canada Mandates Food Front-of-package Nutrition Labeling

On June 30, 2022, Health Canada introduced new nutrition labelling regulations for packaged foods, which require to indicate a symbol on the front of packages (FOP) indicating if a food is high in saturated fat, sugars and/or sodium. The regulations will come into effect on July 20, 2022. A grace period will be given for the industry to make changes until January 1, 2026.
