South Korea Updates Health Functional Food Code, Enhancing Material Safety Standard

South Korea updated the Health Functional Food Code on February 17, 2023. The standards of seven notified functional ingredients are modified according to the regular re-examination results. The dietary supplements with Spirulina can no longer be claimed with "beneficial to skin health". The Coleus forskohlii extract (콜레우스포스콜리 추출물) is converted from an individually recognized ingredient to a notified functional ingredient. And the a new efficacy of “blood pressure control" is added to garlic.

Japan revised the Enforcement Regulation of the Food Sanitation Act. Philippines proposed to revise regulations on food additives and processing aids. India amended the Food Safety and Standards (Food Products Standards and Food Additives). EU revised the regulation on MRLs for pesticides in or on food and feed of plant and animal origin. US amended the color additive regulations. Canada proposed MRLs for five pesticides in multiple food categories. FSANZ consulted on the energy labelling on alcoholic beverages.
