Japan Revises Sake Labeling Standards

On July 19, 2022, National Tax Agency of Japan released an amendment to Sake Manufacturing Method Quality and Labeling Standards, involving mandatory, recommended, and prohibited labeling requirements for sake products. The amendments will become effective on January 1, 2023.

Japan Rejects 82 Batches of Imported Foods in June 2022

According to the latest MHLW notification, 82 batches of food products imported from 28 countries were found non-compliant in June 2022. Among these products, the most non-compliant imported food in June came from China (23%), followed by America (17%). The agricultural products (mostly fruits and vegetables) are still the majority of the overall rejections.

[Updated] Japan Proposes to Add Additional Existing Substances into the FCM Positive List

On April 26, 2022, the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW) of Japan announced to start the nomination for existing substances in the FCM Positive List again. The application can be submitted before July 16, 2022. MHLW emphasized that this would be the last opportunity to submit a request for an existing substance to be included in the FCM Positive List.

Japan Rejects 58 Batches of Imported Foods in May 2022

According to the latest MHLW notification, 58 batches of food products imported from 18 countries were found non-compliant in May 2022. Among these products, the most non-compliant imports came from America (20.6%), followed by China (17.2%) and Vietnam (15%).
