[Update] More Stringent Supervision for the Labeling and Promotion of Solid Beverage in China

According to the updated supervision, the proper name “solid beverage” should be obviously indicated nearby the product name of the solid beverage products. Besides, the package should indicate the warning that “this product cannot replace special food including food for special medical purposes, infant formula food and health food”.

Very Low Energy Diet will be Supervised as FSMP in Australia and New Zealand

According to Notice No. 194-22 issued on March 21, 2022, Food Standards Australia and New Zealand (FSANZ) announced that the very low energy diet (hereinafter the VLED products) will be supervised as food special medical purposes in Australia and New Zealand. Additionally, its product standard was drafted. The draft standard will be implemented after a 60-day review period, and there will be a three-year transition period after the promulgation of the standard.

Abbott Nutrition Recalls Certain Powdered Infant Formula due to Possible Presence of Cronobacter sakezakii and Salmonella Newport

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is investigating four consumer complaints of infant illness related to powdered infant formula produced from Abbott Nutrition’s Sturgis, Mich., facility. These complaints include three reports of Cronobacter sakazakii infections and one report of Salmonella Newport infection* in infants. “All four cases related to these complaints were hospitalized and Cronobacter may have contributed to a death in one case,” says the U.S. FDA.
