CFDA Releases Sildenafil and Other Phosphodiesterase Inhibitor Testing Requirements

CFDA released Announcement 129 detailing two determination methods for sildenafil and other phosphodiesterase inhibitor. 

CFDA released Announcement 129 detailing two determination methods:

  • BJS 201601 Determination of sildenafil and sildenafil derivatives in food.

Sildenafil and its derivatives have been illegally used in many health foods. CFDA developed this new testing method to increase the supervision over health foods and deter the usage of pharmaceutical substances. The determination method includes the determination of sildenafil and its derivatives, including homosildenafil, hydroxyhomosildenafil, norneosildenafil, thioaildenafil, hongdenafil, vardenafil, pseudovardenafil, aminotadalafil and tadalafil in alcohol, coffee, functional beverages, maca and health food.

  • BJS 201602 Determination of thiourea in wheat flour.

Thiourea has been illegally used for whitening wheat flour and can be toxic to humans. CFDA developed this new testing method to determine the concentration of thiourea in wheat flour.
