Takehome:
- The provisions for supplementary food testing methods have been released to regulate the testing methods that have not been included into the existing national food safety standards.
On Dec. 28, 2016, China CFDA released the “Provisions for Supplementary Food Testing Methods”, which will be formally implemented from Feb. 1, 2017.
It is stipulated that supplementary food testing methods refer to the test methods that are not included into the existing national food safety standards, which will be mainly used in food risk monitoring, food safety accident investigation, emergency disposal, etc. The testing results can also be used by food testing institutes as the reference for penalties when there is any violation of food laws and regulations.
CFDA will be responsible for the approval and publication of supplementary food testing methods. Food testing institutes or scientific research agencies may propose to local FDAs for establishment of supplementary food testing methods in cases where there is no corresponding national food safety standard for the testing method when a food safety incident occurs.
