China CFDA Releases 3 Complementary Food Testing Methods

CFDA issued 3 complementary food testing methods to aid in control of fraud and false claims in food and health food products.

On November 24, 2017, China Food and Drug Administration issued an announcement on the approval of 3 complementary food testing methods according to the Provisions for Complementary Food Testing Methods (CFDA Announcement No.175 of 2016). They are:

  1. Testing of 75 kinds of Illicit added chemical drugs in health foods (BJS 201710) (Appendix 1)

  2. Determination of atropine, anisodamine, scopolamine, procaine and lidocaine in livestock meat (BJS 201711) (Appendix 2)

  3. Comprehensive testing method for fatty acids in edible fats (BJS 201712) (Appendix 3)

The 75 kinds of Illicit added chemical drugs in health foods include Sibutramine, Phenolphthalein, Sildenafil, Vardenafil, Metformin and Rosiglitazone etc.,

With these 3 complementary food testing methods, the sampling inspections work stipulated in the previous Implementation plan for the control of fraud and false claims in food and health food products will run more smoothly.
